Monday after

This morning when i woke up the world seemed a little more gray, even though the sun was out. Even though it was cold, the cold seemed to bite at me just a little bit harder. The decorations that had gone up last night just seemed to have dulled. My case of the Monday morning blues seemed bluer. The taste in my mouth was so much more bitter, and the minor hangover this morning seemed just a little more painful.
The thing that hurts the most is actually seeing your team get to the Superbowl and lose. It would probably hurt less if we didnt make it to the playoffs. Being that close and seeing your team lose pulls at your heartstrings like the end of Old yeller and Dirty Dozen. Having to wait for so long for your team to be good makes it hurt even more. It was tough putting on my beanie, knowing the orange C logo atop my cold head would bring looks of ridicule. Waiting for the Shuttle to pick me up for work was a lonely wait. My heart dropped suddenly last night when I realised it was too late to come back. I sat in stunned silence, hat in bears blue pulled low over my eyes as if it ward off the imagery projected in my 50 inches of DLP HD on my Samsung official Tv of the NFL, but the tiny mirrors were not fogiving, as I was forced to watch it all unfold. I could still hear the tragedy unfold in Dolby digtal 5.1 surround sound. The only thing that made the night go by faster was that I was surrounded by good friends. Some not Bears fans, but supporters of a friend's team. Their teams being washed out in earlier phases of the 16 weeks of NFL season. The only thing that makes for a brighter outlook: two weeks until pitchers and catchers report for spring training, an NFL draft to aid my Chicago bears in the future, and Key elements like Lovie(Big Pimp daddy Bear)Smith, Brian(Big Bad Bear)Urlacher, and Olin(The O-line) Kreutz signed to long term contracts. thanks for the awesome season CHI-town.

Bears bandwagoneers

I love talking about football with people. Not so much about the College gaesm, but ill watch becuse its on. But I LVOE NFL football. I have an opinion on most every team, on what they should do, on what they need to stop doing, on whats broken int heir system, and whats right in their system. Recently, I walked in to my swing shift (1330-2130) and I was told that Discussions of NFL football were no longer allowed per instructions from the guy were all subordinate to. WHAT!??! It's monday, what the hell else am I supposed to talk about on Monday?!?! NFL Football of course. It was then revealed to me that this warning was due to the stupid loss by Philedelphia eagles on Sunday. So of course instead of heeding this warning I prodded and made fun of eagles, Eagles, fans, the entire cream cheese swilling city of Phildelphia, speculated on what "brotherly love" actually means and how the philly cheesesteak is a metaphor for and inspiration for the Tom hanks movie. I made the concession the the Boss springstein and Rocky were the only two good things that have come out of Philadelphia. Oh, and the Declaration of independence. Called out on my big mouth, and betting that my team would surely not be faring much better(since there's not a great number of dominant teams this year) I was asked what my team was. I replied, I love da Bears. I was instantly accused of being a bandwagon fan. This of course is fighting words, because my love for the CHI-town Monsters of the Midway go all the way back to 1985, when I saw my first superbowl on tv. I have sat through years of loving my team even through the mid nineties when every team had great QBs. except Chicago. I have sat through more uninteresting and winless football games as most 49er fans have been experiencing ever since the loss of Jerry Rice. I am no Bandwagoneer looking to pack up and move my cheering to another town simply becasue said team is faring better. I hatethe Packers just as much as a Chicago steel worker, more than Fat Tony the pizza guy, and damn near as much as the Superfans from the SNL sketches. I think Jim Mcmahon was an underrated QB, I think coach Ditka is a football genius and a player's coach. I think the Chicago bears have more history than any other team in the NFL. and though we have only one ring, we have more championships than anyone. Simply because we've been winners since beofore there was an NFL. No bandwagoneer can say that. Bear down.

The Ursine Empire... Da Bears

I first fell in love with Footbal when i saw my first superbowl. SUPERBOWL XX and my Chicago Bears. I'm not from Chicago. I'm a Los Angelino. I hate the raiders and the rams, and there's no love lost for San Diego. The 49ers havent been good since Montana and Rice. Singletary is my favortie player of all time.
The current Chicago Bears continue the tradition for a strong Running Offense and a Stifling...Stifling defense. With a front four that gets sacks on its own, Chicago is able to put Linebackers Briggs and Urlacher into run defense and coverage. Urlacher is simply the smartest Mike linebacker int he NFL. he's quick too. anyone miss Urlacher making Vick look slow like molasses? he hits hard too by the way. Mike Brown is good if he stays healthy. Vasher is a great DB, but I still think Tillman is suspect. On Offense I think we have able, but not stellar Wide outs. Mohammed is a big, physical WR, but lacks speed. Berrian and Gage are qucik, but havent seen enough passes yet. The RB situation is good. Thomas Jones is a great RB, and Benson has the Power and speed to be a starter anywhere else in the NFL. Adrian Petersen is a qucik agile RB with amazing hands. I've never worried about the running game there. But also continuing tradition in Chi-town is the QB situation. Grossman is awesome if he stays healthy. but I have never seen him healthy for more than three games. I want my Bears to do well again this yesr, because its been tough these last twenty years being a fan. But like any real, fan, I refuse to give up on da bears. Bear down Chicago, see you in XLI

Seeing Stars? Dallas Cowboys

Of all the teams I hatethe msot in the NFL. Dallas is pretty high up there. I think it all stems fromt eh fact of when I was a kid, I thought i was a 49er fan, so the hatred comes from there. Turns out I wasnt a 49er fan by the way, turns out I was just a Jerry Rice fan. But I digress.
Dallas made an excellent move, albeit a bit misguided in obtaining T.O. in Free agency. it really works out for everyone involved.
1. Philly gets rid of someone whose attitude doesnt fit in.
2. Dallas gets a premeire receiver, thats sells tickets and replaces the hole that keyshawn left.
3. T.O. gets to stay in a division where he can say "F" you to all the teams he's played with still.
you say attitude? Bill Parcells is his new coach and he doesnt put up with any of that crap. I'm curious to see if the fans will receive him all that much seeing as how he danced on the big star ad all. I think T.O will behave hjimself for no other reason than the new "dancing rules" the NFL has set up that limits how T.O celebrates. I still think he'll be a showstopper. And although I think Drew Bledsow is a little washed up, Parcells loves his ass and that all that matter. TO gets a Pocket QB to throw to him and Terry Glenn. Speed, and Power is going to be a devastating combo in Texas. I'd like to See Henson play a little seeing as how he hasnt played a whole half in his career yet, even sitting behing Vinny T has to make you feel a little unwanted. He looked good in the European NFL.
I dont believe The Cowboys have a good running back. although, I dont think anyone in Dallas, or Dallas fans will ever be pleased as they once were. All RBs in the blue and silver will ALWAYS be measured against Tony Dorsett and of course Emmitt Smith. No matter who carries the ball in Dallas whether theyre actually good or not, will never be good enough. Unless they clone a hybrid of Emmitt and Dorsett.
Will T.O dance on the star? Will Drew draw Blood? Will Parcells have a heart attack from T.O. or bad health first? stay tuned people, I havent been this excited for football since 1985.

Filling the holes... Arizona Cardinals

Honestly, I gotta say, I dont hate the cardinals; I just think they suck. I didnt even know they were stilla round. My grandfather, and the NFL draft reminded me that they actually still existed.I have to admit, the team looks dangerous this year.
A departure from what most WR are, speedy, quick, good hands, the WRs for the desert birds are BIG, Bulky, and run routes so clean theyget big yards. Having a 1 and 2 WR both marquee players in Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald is a scary thought. Having Kurt warner, a accurate smart QB is key for this team, since the WRs arent burning anyone off the line. Don't get it twisted people, Kurt Warner is nowhere near retirement. Dont worry people, you'll probably see Leinart play a few quarters this year, but dont expect him to start much. Reminder: Leinart can't handle pressure, his line at USC made sure of that. AZ doesnt have the line that Leinart is used to, or the type of WR expect him to schooled up by Warner for a few years. The MOST amazing aqusition for the NFL this year is the move by the Edge. Edgerrin James is TOTALLY the missing piece for this troubled franchise. the toal lack of running game in arizona killed the boys is those what seemed like arena football unis. have egde out there gives warner a whole new dimension to work the pass. A downer for edge is that AZ is still a vertical passing attack. but he will be used in a more demanding role than he ever was in Indy. expect him to get more than 20 carries a game to open up the downfield passing. expect a packed stadium too. So much takent on one field is going to give the fan base a boost. Cardinal... scary this year. perhaps these are the end of days

Buying a Super Bowl. Washington Redskins

First: a disclaimer. I hate the Redskins. Although I hate more NFL teams than I like. So you see this is obviously a very biased opinion and I make no apologies for it.
During the beginning of the Free-agency period, the Redskins went out and made some POWER moves. Obtaining what I will concede as the most talented receiving corps in the NFL next year is amazing. Returning to your washingotn redskins is Santana Moss, a speed reciever with amazing catch ability. Brandon Lloyd, San Fran's only shining star from last season is just plain outstanding. FedEx field will be due to see some amazing catches from this guy. Randel El I'm a bit pissed about since there was so much talk about him going to my Chi-town Bears. The Tight End situation is amazing as well. Posessing an already a talented TE in Chris Cooley is great, but securing TE Christian Fauria from the Pats seems unfair. The only downfall here? Ego. Santana Moss is going to share catches with four other men. Brandon Lloyd knows he's good; he made the highlight reel with just ludicrous catches from a very young Alex Smith. Randel El has played Speacial teams, can throw and run, and oh yeah, he can catch. He's a massive weapon. but will he be able to join ANOTHER receiving Corps where he is not highlighted himself? Look at his old crew and how long they stayed together? PLexico, Hinz, and Randel could only share for so long beofre ego gets the better part of you. Major problem? You still have Mark "bubble gum arm" Brunell throwing to you. You cant buy a ring, or a trophy, or a cup in any sport. Ask Steinbrenner.
